Fostering is a crucial and rewarding part of rescue.

How it works

SUBMIT AN APPLICATION

We’ll get to learn more about the type of environment you can offer so we can pair you with a furry friend in our care.

COMPLETE A VIRTUAL HOME CHECK

Once you apply, an adoption coordinator will schedule a virtual home check to learn more about your space.

FOSTER YOUR NEW FRIEND

We’ll provide you with all the supplies and vet care while you provide a temporary home, love, and playtime. Length of stay varies by animal and their individual needs, but to create stability we ask that they stay with you until they’re adopted by their furever family. If you’re interested in fostering-to-adopt, inquire with your coordinator as we determine this on a case-by-case basis.

How does fostering help?

  • You help a dog adjust.

Most of our dogs come from traumatic or life-threatening situations. Welcoming them into your home allows them to gain trust in a safe environment and learn there’s a better way of life.

  • You build their social skills.

Just like humans, dogs are incredibly social and sensitive creatures. They need time to learn our cues and in some cases these skills can be the deciding factor in getting them adopted by a loving family.

  • You preview pet parenting.

Not sure if you or your family is ready for a furever friend? Fostering lets you test out the responsibility without the long-term commitment.

What to expect

PATIENCE

Our rescues will need time to adjust to a new environment, so you may notice some sensitivity to their surroundings within the first week of arrival. This is totally normal! One of the most rewarding parts about fostering is getting to watch your furry friend come out of their shell.

TRAINING

In some cases, fostering requires basic rehabilitation skills like learning how to walk on a leash or go potty outside. While teaching your foster commands like sit or stay isn’t required, we encourage you to try if you’re willing! Training builds trust and increases likelihood of adoption.

LOVE

Many of our rescues have never experienced love or kindness from a human before. You’ll get the chance to show them that a safe place, warm hugs, and cuddles mean love, protection, and care. You’ll get lots of kisses back, too!

BEING OPEN

Oftentimes we’re learning a dog’s individual quirks and needs alongside you. Once a dog joins our cult, we’re dedicated to doing whatever it takes to get them healthy, together.

Is fostering for me?

Fostering is for anyone who’s willing to provide temporary space, time, and care for a furry friend.
